At Hickman Mills Church of Christ, we feel strongly about our responsibility to help children establish an in-depth, well-rounded background of Bible knowledge. We believe this knowledge is necessary in order for them to reach spiritual maturity and to teach others.
In 2000 our congregation began an exciting new Bible study program called The Bible Lab. Bible Lab classes are structured for grades 2 through 12. Occasionally we offer this program for adults that are new converts or are interested in teaching in the Bible Lab program. It has been proven by other congregations to help students retain much of the material they study. It allows the student to proceed at his/her own pace while working closely with a teacher. Presently we have a teacher/student ratio of approximately 1:4. Enthusiasm towards learning God's will through His word, is very evident in this classroom environment. Students in grades 2 - 5 are involved with the Bible Lab each Sunday and Wednesday. For students in grades 6 - 12, we have integrated the Bible Lab on Sunday morning with topical studies on Wednesday evenings, based on their grade level.
The Bible Lab program is divided into different units: A, B/blue, B/green, B/red, C, and D. The same Bible lessons are presented in each unit, but the degree of difficulty increases as each student progresses to the next unit. This helps a more advanced student to remain interested by being challenged, but will not confuse or overwhelm students with less Bible knowledge.
In the classrooms, each student has his/her own separate workstation that they can personalize and keep their class material. There are even workstations set up for any visitors that might attend class. Each class begins with every student working on folder assignments at their individual workspace and ends with a short Bible lesson assembly.
Each unit gives students "Hands on" projects that make learning stimulating and fun. To help students learn, fully understand, and retain Bible information, each lesson is enhanced using various formats such as Worksheets, Games, Flash cards, Maps and charts activities, Puzzles, Time lines, Cassettes, and Videos.
